Alex Rodriguez talked about the time he first met NFL Hall of Famer Dan Marino decades ago when he was only 14 years old in a clip of the documentary that’s airing on NFL Network on Friday night, which is Marino’s 56th birthday.
A-Rod shared the video along with the words, “My all time favorite, Mr. Dan Marino.” Here’s how the World Series champ tells the story that you can watch below:
He says it was when Marino was filming his show at a specific location in Miami that happened to be near his house, so he did a “scouting report” and found out he could catch Marino in the parking lot around a certain time. A-Rod says he waited for two hours one day, then finally, he saw him.
“Sure enough, I saw him and my heart stopped. I walked up to him, I was probably like 14 years old, and I said, ‘Mr. Marino can I have your autograph?’ He looked up at me and he put his arm around me and said, ‘You’re a good looking athlete,’ and forever from that moment, he even went to a higher pedestal because he was so nice, he was so encouraging, and just his few words, well, I can remember it like it was yesterday.”
